阿根廷國家足球隊18日在卡達世界盃奪冠，隊長梅西（Lionel Messi）走上舞台準備收下大力神盃前，卡達國王塔米姆先為他披上一件「黑袍」，引發部分西方媒體及記者批評，認為卡達試圖以此掩蓋迫害人權的紀錄，甚至有英媒形容此舉「毀了最偉大時刻」。不過阿拉伯媒體人強調，黑色的男性傳統服飾畢希（bisht）象徵身分地位，代表對梅西致敬，砲轟西方媒體無知，應該多讀點書。

18日晚間阿根廷封王後，梅西走上舞台準備接過大力神盃，在此之前，卡達國王塔米姆（Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani）先為梅西披上黑底、金邊的阿拉伯男性傳統服飾「畢希」，之後才將大力神盃交給梅西，梅西再披著黑袍與隊友們一同舉起金盃，慶祝封王。

美國有線電視新聞網（CNN）報導，梅西被「黑袍加身」的舉動引發部分西方媒體批評，現已轉戰廣播界的前英格蘭國腳李納克（Gary Lineker）在英國廣播公司（BBC）的直播節目中用「可恥」來形容這一幕；《紐約時報》（New York Times）記者潘賈（Tariq Panja）發布推文指控：「卡達希望成為它的時刻，如同梅西及阿根廷的時刻一樣。」
英國《每日電訊報》（The Telegraph）罵得更兇，在初版文章中以斗大的「破壞世界盃史上最偉大時刻的詭異舉動」標題報導這則新聞，後續文章才改標為「梅西被迫穿著傳統阿拉伯畢希來舉盃」。

CNN文章指出，部分西方媒體不滿的原因，主要在於認為主辦國卡達最後一次嘗試在世界盃上「體育洗白」（sportswashing）。體育洗白的意思是指控卡達利用這場競賽掩蓋人權紀錄。
針對部分媒體批評，卡達交付與遺產最高委員會（Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy）秘書長塔瓦迪（Hassan Al Thawadi）表示，畢希是正式場合及慶祝場合所穿的服飾，「是為了慶祝梅西。」

包括阿拉伯媒體人在內等其他人則砲轟西方媒體誤解卡達文化、相當無知，專欄作家哈拉米（Reem Al-Harmi）在推特撰文指出，畢希在阿拉伯文化中象徵欣賞及尊重，贈予一個人畢希，代表這個人非常重要、備受尊敬，「今天就是梅西」，她建議西方媒體應該要多讀點和畢希有關的文章。
